Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has heaped praise on goalkeeper Edouard Mendy after his impressive display against Manchester United on Saturday.
The Senegal international was only making his second league start for the Blues following his summer move, but he produced another solid performance.
Mendy made a couple of top saves to deny Marcus Rashford from scoring and one of those came during the dying minutes where he dived towards his left to deny the Englishman a dramatic winner.
The Blues were far from impressive as they barely tested David de Gea in the opposition goal, but Lampard was still pleased with Mendy’s showing in the goalless draw.
“The performance was very good. Rely on the goalkeeper for that moment. Not many chances. He showed what he’s there for. Showed great composure,” He told via Football.London.
Mendy has definitely provided the Blues with an upgrade on Kepa Arrizabalaga, who had one of the worst save percentages in the Premier League during the previous campaign.
Chelsea have made a mixed beginning to the current season and they are winless since returning from the international break. In terms of the league, they are temporarily sixth with a one-point gap to the top four.
