Chelsea Football Club have reportedly reached an £89 million deal with Bayer Leverkusen for midfielder Kai Havertz.
The west Londoners are expected to pay an upfront fee of £72 million to Leverkusen, and have also offered recent summer signing Malang Sarr on a loan to the German side for the 2020-2021 season.
The 21-year-old has expressed his interest to put pen to paper on a rumoured five-year contract with the Blues, despite being away on international duty as part of Germany’s UEFA Nations League campaign for their fixtures against Spain and Switzerland.
A seemingly never-ending transfer saga has involved many twists and turns on social media prompting supporters to jump to many a conclusion.
Suspicions soon began to rise, with many of the Blues’ faithful believing it was a cryptic code implying their German duo is soon to a become a trio in the form of Havertz’s arrival.
Particularly in recent months, restless Chelsea fans have taken to Twitter to pester the two clubs in an attempt to pull the deal over the line themselves.
Yesterday, a Blues fan on Twitter asked Leverkusen whether they were “gonna tweet the news all us Chelsea fans want to hear?”
Prompting the Bundesliga side to stubbornly respond, “We only tweet news when we have news to tweet… no matter how many times you ask for it”.
Havertz is set to become the Blues’ seventh summer signing once the deal is made official, joining Sarr, Hakim Ziyech, Werner, Thiago Silva, Ben Chilwell, Xavier Mbuyamba in Frank Lampard‘s somewhat of a revolution at Stamford Bridge.
