Liverpool are reportedly considering a move for Daryl Janmaat, who is a free-agent following his release from Watford.
The 31-year-old was relegated from the Premier League with the Hornets last season, but he has since terminated his contract.
According to TEAMtalk, the Reds are desperate for reinforcements in the central defence after the setback for Joe Gomez.
Virgil van Dijk was ruled out for the long-term last month with a serious knee injury and Gomez has now suffered a similar setback.
That leaves Joel Matip as the only senior centre-back in the squad and the club are said to be looking at Janmaat as a stop-gap option.
Meanwhile, it is reported that midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has personally recommended the signing, having played with Janmaat regularly.
Wijnaldum and Janmaat were together at Newcastle United and the duo have also played with regularity for the Netherlands over the years.
Janmaat made 77 appearances for the Magpies between 2014 and 2017 before joining the Hornets, whom he represented on 85 occasions.
