Manchester United reportedly reached an agreement with Barcelona to sign Ousmane Dembele on deadline day, only for the player to backtrack on the move.
The Red Devils were keen on signing a marquee winger over the summer and they had identified Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho as the number one transfer target.
However, they were unable to negotiate a suitable deal for the England international and that meant that they focused on signing Dembele before the transfer deadline.
Unfortunately, they could not strike a deal for the World Cup winner either and it is now revealed that the Frenchman declined to leave the Catalan giants at the 11th hour.
The Blaugrana were aiming to sign Memphis Depay from Lyon before the transfer deadline, but the deal also broke down as they could not recoup sufficient funds after Dembele’s refusal to leave the club.
Dembele has yet to make his mark under manager Ronald Koeman. He was recently handed a start against Getafe on the road, but his performance was disappointing as the Blaugrana suffered a surprise 1-0 loss.
