Manchester United have confirmed the arrival of midfielder Donny van de Beek from Ajax for a reported fee of £40m.
The Netherlands international has become the club’s first major signing of the summer transfer window and has signed a five-year deal with the option for another 12 months.
“I cannot begin to explain how incredible an opportunity it is to join a club with such an amazing history. I would like to thank everyone at Ajax. I grew up there and I will always have a special bond with the club,” He told the club’s official website.
Van de Beek played a key role in Ajax’s run to the Champions League semi-final in 2019. In the recent season, he bagged 11 goals and 10 assists from 37 appearances for the Dutch giants.
United are likely to follow up the purchase of Van de Beek with at least three more signings. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen on recruiting a new centre-back, right winger and striker.
AS Monaco’s Benoit Badiashile has been identified as the top central defensive target. Meanwhile, it is widely known that United want Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho to bolster their options on the right wing.
