Manchester United are reportedly leading the race to sign Pau Torres from Villarreal during the summer transfer window.
The centre-back has established himself as a regular for club and country, but he could pursue a fresh club this year.
According to La Razon, the Red Devils are best positioned to sign the left-footed centre-back ahead of Barcelona and Real Madrid.
It is added that the Spaniard would welcome a move to United, where he could partner Harry Maguire next season.
Torres recently said that he is ‘relaxed’ regarding his future despite the constant speculation that he could leave Villarreal.
He has a £56m release clause on his contract, but Villarreal are open to reducing the price tag with a part-exchange deal.
Eric Bailly, formerly of Villarreal, is currently reluctant to sign a new contract with United amid his limited playing time.
He will enter the final year of his deal this summer, and United could offer him as a makeweight to land Torres.
