Manchester United could make a big-money move for Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez at the end of the season.
The Argentine was linked with a move to Barcelona this summer, but a deal failed to materialise after they were reluctant to meet the £96m release clause.
Elsewhere, Chelsea are reported to have made an approach, but they were also unable to convince the striker to join them.
According to AS, Martinez could head for an exit next summer with interest from the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid.
It is added that the Red Devils could join the pursuit as the hierarchy are on the hunt for a striker, who can impress on a long-term basis.
Edinson Cavani was signed earlier this summer, but he is only regarded as a stop-gap option as he is already in the final phase of his career.
Anthony Martial has been the regular striker for the Red Devils, but the Frenchman has lacked the consistency leading the line.
