Man United to extend Lingard’s contract

Manchester United are set to trigger the extension clause in Jesse Lingard‘s contract to keep him at the club until the summer of 2022.

The 28-year-old has fallen out-of-favour under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and he has yet to play a single minute of league football this term.

His current deal expires at the end of the campaign, but United are set to trigger the 12-month option to extend his stay until June 2022, a report from The Mail claims.

Celtic, Rangers and Sheffield United have all been credited with an interest in Lingard and United are reluctant to allow their graduate leave for a bargain fee at the turn of the year.

Lingard, who has made more than 200 appearances for United, was valued at around £25m last summer, but his valuation will have dropped with his lack of playing time.

Still, United are reportedly looking for an eight-figure sum to part ways with the England international. Aside from Lingard, Sergio Romero and Phil Jones could be on the move next month.
