Manchester United were never in the running to sign Gabriel Magalhaes from Lille during the ongoing transfer window.
The Brazilian is currently on the cusp of joining Arsenal after undergoing a medical and agreeing to personal terms over a long-term deal.
Earlier this month, it was mentioned that the Red Devils had made a late move to sign Magalhaes ahead of the Gunners, but the centre-back was convinced by the project under Mikel Arteta.
However, according to Manchester Evening News, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s side never made a serious attempt for the defender and their name was primarily used to push the Gunners into a quick deal.
They recently made an opening bid of around £22.4m for Benoit Badiashile, but that was turned down by AS Monaco. The Principality outfit want at least £55m to part ways with the left-footed centre-back.
