Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has dismissed the prospect of signing Luis Suarez from Atletico Madrid during the summer transfer window.
The Uruguayan was on the radar of Tuchel when he was the Paris Saint-Germain manager last summer but ultimately he joined Atletico from Barcelona for a small fee.
Suarez has been hugely influential for Diego Simeone‘s side this season with 16 goals from 20 La Liga games and the club are currently top of the league standings.
There has been speculation that Tuchel could be keen on signing Suarez for the Blues, but the German has denied the speculation citing that the striker is under contract.
“There was a possibility, we heard rumours he was about to leave Barcelona,” He told.
“Who cannot be interested in one of the best strikers in history and present world football? We tried our luck.”
“I don’t know. It was a moment. I think he’s under contract and it’s not worth thinking about.”
Suarez has a secret clause on his Atletico contract which allows him to terminate his deal this summer.
Given how things have gone, it is unlikely that the 34-year-old will exercise the option at the end of the season.
Suarez will come up against Chelsea during the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 tomorrow.
